Re: Hoka Shoes
I have trained high mileage on Hoka's for trails and up to 53 mile runs. They are a remarkable experience, they smooth out the trail and take the impact out of downhills and make uphills seem easier. It almost feels like cheating wearing them!! Interestingly, I have tended to vear away from them and...

Wellpark's first 53 mile Hilly Ultra
Hi All, I have been kicking about here for a few years and I have learned a lot. Tinman has coached me and I have performed beyond expectations within a few months of his input. Last year, I had a terrible time with injury - one of the reasons I sought out The Runzone was to find 'another way'. I ha...

Re: Can anyone run big miles per week?
That's tough NAB777. Better to have a sound diagnosis and something concrete to work on though, than years of guess work. Every athlete I know that has had a sound/treatable diagnosis following injury has made a swif recovery and gone on to achieve, beyond their expectations. I hope this resolves th...

Re: Last Quality Workout before Boston
Hey DKG, You know yourself best and you look to be in pretty good shape. I hope todays run was a confidence booster and left you feeling ready for your taper and the 'main event'. Plenty of time now to relax - recover - fuel - sharpen and GO! I look forward to hearing how you get on at Boston...... ...

Re: Cycling and running
The experiment with cycling continues: I continue to improve regarding my running, keeping to Tinman principles: Steady progress with CV/Tempos being used in a limited capacity just now. I have not had any significant niggles or de-stabalising affects in recent weeks, however my quality of running a...

Re: Racing 20 to 26.2 back to back
The combo is the right way round for you to be able to recover more quickly for the marathon. If the 20 miler is your Key race, go for it and don't concern yourself re the marathon until after the race. If all is well, focus on a recovery cycle of training, continue to 'sharpen' - you will hold a lo...

Re: Racing 20 to 26.2 back to back
Hey Pdotteson, As Ultraman suggests, its all about strength and aerobic power and your own ability to recover. I know many guys that knock out 20 - 30 mile runs every weekend and race Ultra's (30-100m races) weeks apart and do relatively well but they know there is a cost. As with anyone who is rac...

Re: Cycling and running
The experiment continues: I seem to be adjusting to the cycling, I am not getting home as tired, the cycles uphill are less of an effort and I am using faster gears. I still feel a little fatigued for my runs but I am mostly running EZ around 7:30 - 8:10 pace. I am alternating a Tempo and low volume...

Re: Cycling and running
Hi All - Another update re the cycling and impact on my running. I ran 4x last week. The commute is tiring and I am not motivated/feel physically able to go out and run recovery miles when I have already cycled 16-20 miles and x4 times that day. It does feel good to get home and have the evening fre...
