Re: Looking for thoughts for struggling masters runners

I'll explain the thick shoe on soft surface the way I understand it. Basically think about standing on a bosu ball barefoot, difficult right? well now do it with a pair of thick Hokas on. Much harder, why? Because your trying to balance on two surfaces now. Switch the Hokas out with a pair of Altra ...

Re: Help with Proper Tapering

Don't taper. keep the ball rolling. Your running 30 miles a week so tapering isn't really something you should be looking at. There is a lot with this training that I don't like personally but I'll keep those comments to myself. If it works for them, then great. I wouldn't taper though, especially a...

Re: Training for the sprint at the start of a XC race

You can add striders two to 3 times every week. 4x200m with complete rest or 1:00minute rest. Not meant to be all out, something to just get the legs going.

Re: Looking for thoughts for struggling masters runners

Look up Kelly Starret. I use his stuff for stretching and staying healthy physically. I am a lot younger, but his stuff when done consistently can help with that lower back pain and a lot more. I would start there before adding mileage. One thing to note: Thick shoes and soft surfaces don't work gre...

Re: Lower mileage - but still effective?

There are many variables that come into the question of how fast you will be at the end of the season. They are pretty hard to list. From, what kind of a runner you are? If the 30-40 mpw in track gets you a 4:10 mile, that's quite different than if it only produces a 5:00. To, our HS championship c...

Re: Lower mileage - but still effective?

I am currently running about 23-26 miles a week due to constantly being injured. Its my senior year in cross country and every year I have had issues with lower leg injuries. I can run more mileage in track (30-40 miles a week consistently) but I can't in xc. So 23 miles a week and 5k time right now...
