Re: Marathon training and Pacing advice for a newbie -- Result updated

dkggpeters - thanks for the suggestion on adjusting by 3 or 4 seconds.. In the only marathon I have run before this, my GPS came in between 26.3 and 26.4..so, I was slightly troubled when my (and others) GPS came in at 26.5 and 26.6. Anyway, the race is over now; so no point worrying about it too mu...

Re: Marathon training and Pacing advice for a newbie -- Result updated

[quote="monica"] [quote="jeet"] Updated on May 03 with results.. Ran a 3:27:45. Miles 24, 25 and 26 at 8:45 pace resulted in missing the 3:25 goal. Race day temperature was between 55 and 70 degrees. I felt fine weather-wise; not too hot. My GPS said 26.56 miles; which is kind of "long" for an out-a...

Re: Marathon training and Pacing advice for a newbie

Quick advice please: Should I be running any 'Big Workouts' for the last 2 weeks before the marathon? My marathon is on May 3rd; and I am not sure of how to slot the 'Big Workouts' now. If I was doing a traditional plan, I would have run 3 x 1600 @ 10K pace on Wednesday and progression long run of 1...

Re: Marathon training - 3:20 to 3:25 attempt

Re: Marathon training and Pacing advice for a newbie

[quote="monica"] @jeet Heh, my longest was 18 miles and only did that once and I didn't have a problem finishing the marathon and I wasn't that severely sore afterwards. I guess your overall weekly mileage was very low or you just didn't prepare for the marathon for more than a couple of months or p...

Re: Marathon training and Pacing advice for a newbie

Tom - By GMP, I meant MP. Since my marathon is just 7 weeks away, my GMP = current MP, I hope :). Don't think I will improve much in the next 6 weeks. Think I can run a 3:20 marathon (7:38 pace) based on my non-tapered 1:34 (7:10) HM last week. Thanks for pointing out that I might be well on my way ...
