Re: The Running Summit (clinic) in Chicago: June 25th and 26
My son and I went on day 2. We both really enjoyed it, and enjoyed finally getting to meet Tinman. As I mentioned to Tinman in an email, the stories from Daniels' and Vigil were interesting, but I liked how Tinman stayed more on topic and covered the material he was intending to cover. Not that I ev...

Re: Drew Hunter's Mileage
Often times, others start criticizing, or in this case making stuff up about their training, when they are jealous of the success. Consider it a compliment.

Re: calf heart attack
I missed my prime adult running years due to calf injuries that I just couldn't shake. It was roughly a 10 year span of run a little, tear them both, attempt to heal for months, etc. Very frustrating. I finally found a good chiropractor (per the advice of a PT that didn't know what to do after month...

Re: Reducing Frequency of Illness
Have you been to your Dr? Blood work to check for any deficiencies? If you're getting sick that often, besides the easy stuff I just mentioned, you need to look at the things you do that weaken your immune system 1) Are you really getting you get enough sleep, to account for all the stress in your l...

Re: 5k-paced or VO2max workouts for longer distance racing
I'm on your side. Tinman coaches me and I primarily focus on longer races. The emphasis is on stamina. However, a few years ago when he was training me for a 800m and 1500m track meet, the volume of V02Max reps was pretty small compared to stamina paced reps. Of course, there always needs to be an a...

Re: Racing a Late Night Race When You're a 5am Trainer
There are a lot of late night 5k's with the days becoming longer this summer. With a new baby at home, rising temperatures, and a demanding work schedule, I typically go to bed between 9:30 and 10pm so I can wake-up between 5am and 5:45am to run. I'm in a groove where after a bagel and a cup (or tw...

Re: CV and TT - but based on what race distance?
Boiler Tom - Of course - I totally agree on currently lacking the stamina. I'm excited about the CV and TT training as a way to make sustainable progress. In terms of keeping in touch with the speed, I think all I really need is 4 x 200 tagged on to the end of these, as I know Tinman prescribes for...

Re: CV and TT - but based on what race distance?
Billy, No, unless that's what you want to get better at :-) Most runners racing performances line up they way your's did (better at the short stuff). I was trying to point out that you, like most runners, have some natural speed, but lack stamina. The CV and TT style of training will suite you well!...

Re: CV and TT - but based on what race distance?
The typical recommendation is to use a longer, not shorter, race when determining training paces (within reason of course... that is I wouldn't use a 1/2M time if I was woefully under-trained for the 1/2M). Also, consider that Tinman will prescribe a time trial of 2000 (or 2400m) to determine traini...

1- keep it fun. 2- recognize the level of commitment will vary greatly with each person. Some are there for social reasons, and some want to excel. Recognize the difference and coach accordingly. 3- Let kids try a lots of different events (see #1), especially those there more for social reasons. 4- ...
